CITY – Third Avenue pedestrian bridge, Sandman Centre to get sprucing up
Two downtown civic structures will get a sprucing up this summer — the 3rd Avenue pedestrian bridge and Sandman Centre.
The City has hired Unitech Construction Management to perform maintenance on the pedestrian bridge, including:
• concrete repairs
• handrail safety improvements
• plexiglass panels removal and replacement
• concrete sealing
• new paint
The pedestrian bridge has not been updated in more than 20 years.
The project will begin Tuesday, May 25, with expected completion by mid-July. Hours of work will be Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–5 p.m.
The work will require a full closure of the pedestrian bridge. Pedestrians are advised to use crossings at 2nd Avenue or 1st Avenue for the duration of the project. Third Avenue between Lansdowne Street and Lorne Street will be closed intermittently.
Motorists are advised to obey traffic control personnel and signage and use caution in the area. Access will be provided to adjacent businesses. The Sandman Hotel, Moxie’s Grill & Bar, and Shark Club should be accessed via 2nd Avenue.
As part of this project, Sandman Centre will also get a new paint job.
The ” Golden Gate ” of the north was one on the greatest wastes of money that Kamloops has done in 40 years. It should have been shipped to Japan for use as an Olympic event.
