PETERS – Ultra-rich raised $1 billion for Notre Dame with unsettling speed
THE TRAGEDY OF THE FIRE that damaged the Notre Dame Cathedral has touched the entire world.
Even those who have never visited the iconic landmark are expressing sadness that they will never get to see it in its historical form.
Since the Monday fire ravaged Notre Dame, the ultra-wealthy have stepped up with an urgency rarely seen in that stratosphere.
Francois-Henri Pinault quickly pledged 100 million euros toward the reconstruction, and that was followed up by rival Bernard Arnault and his company pledging 200 million euros.
