WHAT’S UP DOWNTOWN – Raising the Barre on maintaining a healthy lifestyle

AS YOU ALL KNOW, a big portion of our job is to interact Downtown merchants. It’s cool. We get the ins and outs of what’s going on, what’s coming up, who has this product, what’s new and so on.

One of the added bonuses to the Neighbourhood Alliance is getting to have a People of the Neighbourhood article written on your business. If you haven’t guessed it already, we are usually the ones who conduct those interviews.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting with Geralyn Alain, one of the co-owners of Barre Kamloops. (Co-owners are Joey Alain and Kristen Pickell.)

If you’re anything like me, it’s always a task to make time to maintain a healthy life style, and go work out. When I heard that I was going to be doing an interview with Barre, I thought, “Great! I’ve visited a few of those in my day!”

Wrong bar though. The good news is that I am now much more informed on what Barre Kamloops does, and it’s a different kind of “shaken not stirred” than I’m used to.

“Barre is a combination of Pilates, strength training, some dance elements and yoga. The classes are all mashed together into a package,” says Geralyn. With the music pumping, and the energy high, Barre is a great way to work-out, without realizing you’re even working out.

Of course, at Barre Kamloops, you will be doing a lot of work at the barre.

“We can use it to do a lot of cool things, including a lot of work for the booty, for the legs and then work into the arms with light weights and high repetition, followed by yoga and body core work.”

The program that Geralyn, Joey and Kristen have built is amazing and inclusive, if you have a baby, there’s a mom and baby class, there’s prenatal classes, and if your kid-free, there’s a class for you too.

I can guarantee you, that if you visit Barre Kamloops and are looking for a unique and energetic work-out, this is the work out for you.
