PASSING – Services planned for former City councillor Dave Gracey
Memorial services are being planned for former Kamloops City councillor Dave Gracey, who died at his home in Japan on Aug. 21.
Gracey, 50, died at his home in Yachioyo City, Chiba, a suburb of Tokyo, from diabetic ketoacidosis. A post on his Facebook page from friend and business associate Alex Conley today (Monday, Sept. 4, 2017) confirmed the cause of death.
Gracey had been living in Japan for 12 years where he was a respected teacher, teacher trainer, and advisor.
His body will be cremated Wednesday at Magone Saijo in Magome, Chiba, and his remains will be spread at Onjuku Beach in Chiba on Sunday, Sept. 17. Additional memorial services are being planned in Japan and Canada.
Gracey was elected to City council in 1999 and served until 2002, not running for a second term. After obtaining a Bachelor of Journalism degree and a TESOL certificate at Thompson Rivers University in teaching English as a second language, he moved to Japan in 2005.
Will be missed by friends and students alike, both here and in Chiba.
