POLICE – Hundreds ticketed in week-long road safety blitz; first of several

RCMP Alexa bus.

Kamloops drivers are in a hurry. That appears to be the explanation for the fact that Kamloops RCMP Traffic Section handed out 452 speeding tickets between Monday and Thursday of last week, plus 24 warnings. Eight 90-day immediate roadside prohibitions and three three-day prohibitions were handed out.

Traffic officers conducted road safety blitzes on those days throughout Kamloops.  On Friday and Saturday night the Traffic Section used the Alexa Bus and concentrated on impaired drivers.

Below is the breakdown by offence for the week:

Speeding violations     – 452

Speeding warnings      –  24

Excessive speeding with the vehicle being impounded   – 4

Assorted traffic violations    – 48

Assorted traffic warnings     – 42

No insurance    – 3

Drug seizures   – 5

Prohibition Notices served    – 3

90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP)   – 8

3 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP)   – 2

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said today (April 24, 2017) RCMP will conduct more road safety blitzes throughout the spring and summer.
