Great article! When I worked at Highland Valley Copper, in a 10-year period I saw eight people lose their job because they tested positive to marijuana. One individual I know well lost his job only three weeks ago.
Once smoked, the THC stays in your system for up to 30 days. HVC random tests, once pot is legalized they won’t be changing the rules, test positive, your terminated. You have lost a job that pays in most cases over $100,000 a year.
Most industrialized workplaces apply the same rules. When they learn you lost your last job for testing positive to having smoked marijuana, you’re not likely to get hired. It may be legal but it will be a long time before it is treated no differently than alcohol.

I agree. There is no reason why someone should be allowed to be impaired on the job by anything.

Why would anyone want to risk it over a joint when cocaina et al is so readily available?

It makes one wonder what HVC knows that a lot of others SHOULD know.
In my years travelling & doing work as an electronics contractor, most of the big lumber mills had policies about drugs and alcohol. Who wants to be working with someone who has been smoking pot and then is operating a crane to lift pieces of heavy log yard equipment when maintenance work is being done inside the shop?
I wouldn’t want my surgeon to be stoned when she or he is about to cut me open.
Do you think I’d go hunting with somebody who has been smoking the stuff?
So, THC stays in one’s body for just 30 days ….. ?
