POLICE – Drug traffickers, violent offenders targeted in two-day operation

During a two-day intelligence-led enforcement operation the Kamloops Proactive Enforcement Team targeted drug trafficking, violent offenders, property crime and individuals with outstanding warrants, police said today (July 22, 2026).

From funding received through B.C.’s Special Investigations and Targeted Enforcement Program (SITE), 10 officers from the detachment’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and general duty police took specialized training.

On July 3 and 4, 2026, KPET focused on hotspots throughout the city, resulting in multiple arrests, drugs seizures, and recovery of firearms, including:

• 16 arrests
• 16 dangerous or prohibited weapons seized
• 2 firearms recovered
• More that 1 kilogram of drugs seized
• 1 replica firearm seized

KPET officers also recovered a loaded 12-gauge shotgun along with additional prohibited weapons such as bear spray, brass knuckles, batons, knives and an axe.

“This operation demonstrates the value of intelligence led policing and proactive enforcement in disrupting criminal activity and improving public safety,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley.

“The significant quantity of drugs, firearms and weapons removed from our community highlights the effectiveness of KPET officers with targeting those involved in organized criminal activity.”
