EDITORIAL – Best thing for all would be a graceful exit by KGHM

Ajax-officeCAN THERE BE any doubt that the proposed Ajax mine is dead?

The importance of the decision by local First Nations to unequivocally reject the project shouldn’t be under-estimated.

This past weekend, the Tk’emlúps and Skeetchestn Bands, acting together as the Stk’emlúpsemc te Secwépemc Nation (SSN) came out full-bore against Ajax, joining with a great many in the Kamloops community to ‘just say no.’

  1. Who gives a damn what the Polish Government wants?

I suppose that that those opposed to the proposed mine would like to see the Company step gracefully away from the dance floor. Then there will be those who are in favour of the Company staying the course and who would prefer the dance to continue. The big question could be what does the Polish government want? How many people in the local area will lose jobs, if the company ends its journey in this area. Of course, we have to remember not to show any bias when it comes to making comments etc.

  3. Thank you Mel. We must create a new fair BC Mineral Tenure Act and make it retroactive as was done for the tobacco situation in June, 2005 because of a possible drain on the Health Care System in the future. Same drain, different pain. If not, if KGHM leaves us, whoever has deeper pockets will finish the job KGHM started.
