Milobar to carry banner for BC Liberals in Kamloops-North riding
The mayor of Kamloops will carry the banner for the BC Liberals in the Kamloops-North Thompson riding in next May’s provincial election.
Peter Milobar was declared the nominee tonight (Nov. 19, 2016) over Steven Puhallo and Mike Grenier. Health Minister Terry Lake decided not to run again.
The announcement was made after a day of voting by members at polling stations in Clearwater, Barriere, Sun Peaks and Kamloops. The vote tallies weren’t revealed but it’s believed about 1,000 members were eligible to vote. A preferential ballot was used to ensure a majority was obtained in one round of voting.
Well over 100 members showed up at the McArthur Island Sports and Events Centre at noon to listen to speeches by the three candidates.
Milobar spoke of growing up in Kamloops and playing hockey in the sports centre as a youngster, and then chairing the Tournament Capital Centre committee as a rookie councilor.
“There isn’t a magic money tree,” he said of the need for a practical approach to government.
Puhallo, executive director of the North Shore Business Improvement Association, talked about his lifelong involvement in the riding, saying “I love this riding and the people in it.”
Grenier, best known for developing the Tobiano residential and golf links community on Kamloops Lake, used his experience there to emphasize his ability to get things done. He was the only candidate to propose policies, outlining his four-point “Fresh Ideas” program, finishing with an exhortation to “Pick Mike.”
Voting wrapped up at 4:30 and the official announcement was made an hour later.
Milobar, who’s received criticism for not living in the riding and for continuing as mayor while aiming at provincial politics, will take on NDP candidate Barb Nederpel, Dan Hines of the Greens, and Communist Party candidate Peter Kerek.

The Lieberals wanted a toady who will blindly do what he is told to do, Peter M is that person. Get out the vote next year and finish his career in politics. Make sure that you do the same favor for Bepple also, she does not deserve a crack at the pension jackpot either.

Great result, we get him out of City government ( no way his job should be held open while waiting for the May 17/17 results) and we get a chance to vote him out at that time.Liberals across the Province will have a hard time getting elected.
Remember, he has already announced he will not cover the cost of a by-election for the Mayors position when it comes to voting in the Provincial election.

So disappointed to hear that. It should have gone to the man who has given so much to the riding, not to the career politician. I remember a couple of elections ago he barely squeaked in, he was so unpopular. I hope the North shore rewards him by NOT electing him.
