Radio announcer killed in highway crash
NEWS — A Kamloops broadcaster has died in a car crash west of Chase.

Mike Evenson of 97.5 FM The River was killed on his way to work early Thursday morning from Chase when his car collided with a loaded logging truck. A tractor-trailer unit then hit the overturned logging truck.
Evenson, 37, was the driver and sole occupant of his car. The accident occurred four km. west of Chase at about 4 a.m.. He is the father of two children and had worked for NL Broadcasting for two and a half years.

We never get enough info on these accidents and very seldom any on the aftermath.Was the logging truck already overturned.Was it traveling too fast which from my observations they very often are?Was it top heavy and overloaded?Did someone nod off?Very few of these accidents are accidents; They are the result of bad driving of every kind by too many aggressive,selfish, inconsiderate irresponsible drivers many of whom should not be givrn the privilage of driving in todays traffic conditions.
The gov,t has not helped the situation in any way.Mr.Todd Stone,s decision to up the speed limit on highway 5 between Kamloops and Barriere has raised many questions locally here about his competancy to hold the position of ” Minister of Highways”.It is 100 kliks all the way now.There were places where 90 was too fast and ALL of the slow to 70 signs have departed.Who lobbies for these changes,the trucking industry or the Alberta gang.
It,s almost anarchy on the highway these days. We need photo radar back and more highway patrol cars.
It,s a hell of a way for a young man with a family to die and unfortunately it happens all to often.
