Editorial — Question remains, what was it all for?
MONDAY MORNING EDITORIAL — Welcome back, kids, welcome back.
It’s a few weeks late, but school’s in for another academic year. Teachers have been busy getting their classrooms ready, maintenance staff have put the finishing touches on school buildings. Motorists are being reminded to drive cautiously through school zones.
Probably not much long-term damage was done to the education of students. Teachers will work hard to catch up on missed material, or redesign classes to skip the less important parts.
There was damage in other ways, of course, but that might soon be forgotten, too. Anger at the Christy Clark government will soon dissipate, just as it did before the last election. Teachers, being hard-working people, will work just as hard as they ever did, maybe harder.
Which raises the question — what was it all for?

The govt’s strategy was to use the strike soften up the position of the union, and to some degree they were successful. However, they can’t employ this strategy with every union. Other unions will benefit from this strike.
If anything, the strike raised awareness of the problems teachers face in the classroom.
And those problems continue, starting today.

FYI Work missed by striking workers is never “made up”. Having to do so would discourage workers from ever going on strike. Teachers will, however, be as creative as they ever have been.
