Mike O’Reilly joins race for Kamloops City council
CIVIC ELECTION 2014 — The redevelopment of the North Shore, making Kamloops the “Business-Friendly Capital of Canada, and attracting more family doctors are the three main goals of the newest candidate for Kamloops City council.
Mike O’Reilly announced his candidacy at a media conference today (Monday) at a Fortune Drive parking lot.
O’Reilly, who has lived in Kamloops for 26 years, said he made the decision to run after careful consideration.
He spent four years as the business attraction manager for Venture Kamloops and is now in the television industry.
O’Reilly said he “has a keen sense of what businesses are looking for when considering a municipality to invest in, and the work ethic and follow-through to get things done.”
He sits on the boards of the MS Society, Kamloops Exploration Group, and the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association.
O’Reilly has set up a website for his “Our city, our time” election platform at http://www.oreilly2014.com.
While I don’t know Mr. O’Reilly, the one thing that can be said about him, is that he is not afraid of throwing his name into the political arena and wars leading up to the November 15th, 2014 city elections. Good on Mr. O’Reilly and all other candidates for running. Win or lose at least they are attempting to make a difference.
I would have written a far poorer critique of the “science” but Ms Pick did it so well….https://armchairmayor.ca/2014/09/14/letter-public-has-a-right-to-comment-on-changes-to-ajax-plan/
Also, if this candidate is actually interested in the science (and the inherent uncertainty of this type of science) he should go to google scholar and type in “multiple sclerosis air pollution” and “multiple sclerosis heavy metals.” There are a number of interesting studies though the stronger links are with heart disease.
I am guessing none of this science will be discussed in the mine application, but we will see.
Four years working for Venture Kamloops? What does Venture Kamloops do exactly?
Where is the list of accomplishments from Venture Kamloops?
Re-development of North Kamloops? Stronger bylaw enforcement it’s mostly what is really needed over there. And as far as “attracting more family doctors” council may have an indirect role to play by making Kamloops a more attractive city.
I do not think this guy has what it takes to make a real difference.
Finally – someone worth voting for!
