Young pedestrian struck in crosswalk
NEWS/ POLICE — A young pedestrian suffered minor injuries at about 3:20 p.m. today when he was struck in a crosswalk at Westsyde Road and Anderson Terrace.
Witnesses told RCMP a 13-year-old was crossing the roadway in a designated crosswalk while the signal lights were activated when the accident occurred.
No alcohol was involved. The pedestrian was taken to Royal Inland Hospital and treated for a possible broken ankle.
The 89-year-old driver was charged for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
When I was maybe (6?) it was drilled into me to watch for cars. I still remember to this day that I thought it a near impossibility that a car would not hit me one day into the future.
I don’t even trust lights. If it’s green, I check right and left and then I go.
It’s just common sense. That said, a 13-yr-old kid is everybody’s kid. Sure hope that kid is OK.
An 89-yr-old driver is another issue, though certainly valid.
