Secwepemc author launches new book

ARTS/ ENTERTAINMENT — Chaos Inside Thunderstorms is the latest poetic examination of First Nations experiences in Canada from Garry Gottfriedson.

ChaosbookBorn and raised in Kamloops, Gottfriedson is a self-employed rancher who has a masters degree from Simon Fraser University. The Secwepemc First Nation writer was awarded the Gerald Red Elk Writing Scholarship by the Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colo., where he studied under Allen Ginsberg, Marianne Faithful and others.

Chaos Inside Thunderstorms touches on leadership, resilience, honour, shame and love. It looks at the Idle No More movement and Truth and Reconciliation conferences.
Gottfriedson’s poetry is described as candid and challenging, thought-provoking and engaging.

His previously published works include In Honour of Our Grandmothers: Imprints of Cultural Survival, 100 Years of Contact, Glass Teepee, Painted Pony, Whiskey Bullets, Skin Like Mine and Jimmy Tames Horses.

  1. We thought your readers might like to know that Gary Gottfriedson will be a presenter at out annual Kamloops Writers Festival this Nov. 7 & 8, 2014. The other authors who will be presenting are; Anne Degrace, novelist, Jen Sookfong Lee, non-fiction, and Lois Peterson, author of childrens books. If you would like more info please contact me.
