Your turn to vote on whether to keep First Responder system
ARMCHAIR MAYOR POLL — City council this week debated the merits of the First Responder system in which firefighters and ambulance crews both answer emergency calls. Is the current system worth keeping, or is it a needless duplication? Click on POLL in the menu bar and vote.
The present system works well;the first responders are very well trained and there are some situations where the extra dollars should not be a quibbling issue. Keep the status quo( we do not have fire protection in our area)!

On many occasions I’ve seen first responders arriving at a “scene” within minutes of each other. Sometimes there are Police, Fire and Ambulance all attending at the same time. If it’s a medical issue, it seems that both Fire and Ambulance are dispatched and turn up to perform the same duty. At a motor vehicle accident scene it’s not unusual for all three services show up. Is it necessary? I’m not so sure. Whoever is dispatching needs to coordinate duties and dispatch only those first responders that are necessary. First responder to arrive on scene can alway call for whatever backup is required to assist!

It would be interesting to see the statistics for B.C. on who most often arrives at the scene first, and by how much. Anyone know?
