Charges have been laid against two men in connection with the 2019 homicide of Rex Gill.
On Jan. 23 of that year, Kamloops RCMP responded to two fatal shootings that occurred about an hour and a half apart. Cody Mathieu, 31 and Rex Gill, 41, were found dead at separate hotels in Kamloops.
McGill was reportedly shot and killed as he smoked a cigarette outside the Comfort Inn and Suites. He was believed to be an innocent victim. Mathieu was shot and killed outside the Super 8 Motel two hours earlier. The two shootings were believed to be connected, and investigations were combined and led by the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit.
Charges of second degree murder have now been laid against Hugh Alexander McIntosh, 58, and Brandon Dale Fiddick, 34.
Both men are jointly charged with the second degree murder of Rex Gill. Investigators determined that Rex Gill was not known to the accused or associated with any criminal activity.
“A tremendous accomplishment by our investigative teams in resolving a seven-year-old homicide, with two individuals now charged with murder,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley.
“This horrific event had a profound impact on the victim’s family and our community.” “This is a testament of the persistence, commitment, investigative skill and unwavering determination of our Serious Crime Unit and those that contributed over the years.
“Most importantly there is an opportunity for some resolution to those affected by this tragic event, as we remain committed to the communities we serve.”
McIntosh and Fiddick were arrested and detained by a judicial justice today (Sept. 19, 2026).
