ELECTION – Nomination packages for council, City school board reps available

Candidate nomination packages for mayor, councillor, and school board trustees-School District No. 73 (Area 1) for the 2026 general local election are now available for download at Kamloops.ca/Election.

Nomination packages can also be picked up on a USB stick at City Hall, 7 Victoria Street West, during regular business hours Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays.

Nomination documents must be submitted to the chief election officer or their deputy between 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, and 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2026. Completed nomination forms may be delivered by hand, mail, or other delivery service to City Hall or by email to election@kamloops.ca.

City Hall says it is highly recommended that candidates file their nomination documents in person by making an appointment with the chief election officer or deputy to avoid delays in filing. Appointments can be made by calling 250-828-3483 or emailing election@kamloops.ca.

The Local Government Act sets out how elections are run, including rules and processes for nomination and campaigning. Information for candidates has been compiled on Kamloops.ca/Election. It includes  videos, links to further resources, and guides outlining everything from the role of an elected official to campaign financing and advertising rules.

“Serving as an elected official is an important and rewarding, yet challenging, responsibility,” said Alisha Beday, the City’s chief election Oofficer. “If candidates decide running in the election is right for them, now is the time to make it official.”

Resources for Kamloops voters are also available on LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/Vote, including a timeline of key dates leading up to election day, an interactive map of voting locations, and frequently asked questions.

Eligible voters can vote at any of the 16 polling locations on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, or at either Heritage House in Riverside Park or in the Sports Centre Lounge at the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre in the advance polls on Oct. 7, 10, or 14. Mail-in ballots will also be available upon request.
