CITY – Annual deadline coming up for payment of property taxes

Kamloops property owners have a deadline coming up Thursday, July 2. That’s when their property taxes are due.

A provincially mandated 10 per cent penalty will be applied to any unpaid balances starting Friday, July 3.

Residents can pay their property taxes through online banking, by mail, or by using one of four secure City dropboxes. A full list of payment methods and hours is available at Kamloops.ca/PropertyTax. Another option is online credit card payments, available at Kamloops.ca/Payment. A non-refundable 2.75 percent convenience fee applies to all credit card transactions.

To assist with in-person payments, City Hall will offer extended hours and will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through July 2. In-person payments are also accepted at the Tournament Capital Centre, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Both City Hall and the Tournament Capital Centre will be closed on Wednesday, July 1 for Canada Day.

Home Owner Grant applications are due July 2 and residents must submit them directly through the provincial government each year either online at Gov.BC.ca/HomeOwnerGrantor by calling 1-888-355-2700. The City cannot assist with or complete Home Owner Grant applications for residents.

Residents experiencing financial challenges may apply for their Home Owner Grant and make a partial payment before the deadline to help reduce the penalty. Additional support may be available through the BC Property Tax Deferment Program, which allows qualifying homeowners to defer part or all of their annual property taxes.

Residents can also plan ahead by signing up for e-billing for 2027 taxes at Kamloops.ca/eBill or by enrolling in the Tax Installment Plan Service (TIPS) to spread their 2027 tax payments into monthly pre-authorized withdrawals. Application forms and program details are available at Kamloops.ca/TIPS.
