CITY HALL – Residents invited to learn more about budget at info session

Kamloops residents will have a chance to learn about the City’s budget plans at an information session on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. in the Kia Lounge at the Sandman Centre (300 Lorne Street).
The session will give residents an opportunity to learn about the City’s provisional 2026 budget, explore proposed supplemental business cases, and ask questions directly to City Council and staff. It will be the only in-person session for the 2026 budget.
Once the budget is set, property tax rates are calculated based on the approved tax requirement, with taxes due in early July.
“We are moving in a direction where we are both approving the budget earlier and consulting on business cases forecasting further into the future,” said Dustin Rutsatz, the City’s planning and procurement manager.
“This will enable the corporation to move forward with a clear budget and give residents more time to engage meaningfully in shaping future initiatives.”
We are quite fortunate to have salary earners like Mr. McCorkle earning more than the Prime Minister of Canada, ensuring our taxes are low and that everything is great in the city. Oh and getting ahead of the BC Assessment move to lower the price of pipelines resulting in a shortfall being made up by taxpayers. Without this council and the highly paid senior admins, we would be highly taxed, face some of the worst crime rates in Canada, and have street disorder and roadwork constantly going on!

Projected at 10.76% tax increase, in a 2.5% inflation environment. Quadruple the inflation rate. Seriously? It seems we really could use a third-party audit and a zero-based budget process, rather than in camera head-nodding and a rubber-stamp approval session.
