Police have concluded that the 911 call that caused NorKam Secondary school to be locked down was not credible.

On Nov. 6, 2025, just before 2 p.m. police received a report of a person in a school with a gun, which prompted a lockdown of Norkam and nearby schools..

Police say that as the investigation unfolded they determined the source of the 911 call came from inside the school.  Further investigation has revealed that a phone left unattended was used by a student in the school to make a prank call to police saying that there was a person in the school with a gun. The student associated to the phone was detained briefly as part of the investigation.

“In order to maintain the safety of the students a lockdown was initiated until investigators could assess the legitimacy of the report of a firearm in the school,” said RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley.

“Once the initial assessment determined there was no longer an immediate threat, the lockdown was released. Our General Investigative Support Team has been working on this file since the onset and through this investigation have been able to determine that this was not a credible threat to the school and a suspect has now been identified.”

The Kamloops RCMP detachment worked with School District 73 and take all school threats seriously, he said.

  1. Some 25plus yrs ago I was teaching at Queen Elizabeth Secondary in Surrey, during the first period the fire alarm went off, we went thru the usual fire drill, fire dept. checked things out, concluded it was a false alarm and we continued on. During the second period a second fire alarm went off and we repeated the drill, this time with a lecture from a fireman scolding students over the intercom that this was not a funny prank. Third period, ditto, this time we had an impromptu school assembly led by firefighters angrily explaining why this was a danger to the community. The fourth period when the alarm was pulled an announcement was immediately followed telling all to ignore the alarm and that it was being shut off.

The moral of the story is that these are high school kids with the emphasis on kids. When they’re with adults they may seem mature but when surrounded with other kids pack mentality takes over and they far too often revert to children. I doubt very much that it’s just a coincidence that this happened the very same day that the 2 students were hit by the car at the bus stop.
