POLICE – Shooting of man at Parkcrest Avenue residence investigated

Kamloops RCMP are looking for information related to an assault with a weapon report that saw a man taken to hospital yesterday (Nov. 15, 2024).

On Friday around 5 p.m., police were called to the 1700-block of Parkcrest Avenue in response to a 911-call involving a person who had been shot. Police located a victim nearby, who was taken to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the report, the man had been in an outbuilding at the residence when he was shot by an unknown number of suspects, who then fled through the backyard and toward the train tracks. Police officers, including the Police Dog Service Unit and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team, searched the area but no one was located.

“Although it’s still very early in the investigation, we can confirm the victim is known to police and the incident is believed to be targeted,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley.

“Incidents of serious violence in our communities, particularly those involving firearms, are very concerning to the public and to police. We remain steadfast in our efforts to continue to advance these investigations, while at the same time suppressing and reducing such events through strategized enforcement efforts.”

The motive behind the shooting is part of the ongoing investigation.

“From the public, we continue to request that you support us by sharing any information you may have that could be related to these activities, including suspicious vehicles, people, or occurrences in your neighbourhoods,” said Pelley.

Anyone with information, including dashcam or security footage that may have captured anything related to this incident is asked to please contact police as soon as possible.

An officer presence remains on Parkcrest Avenue as part of the ongoing investigation, with the support of the General Investigations Support Team, Forensic Identification Service Unit, and frontline officers.

Those with information can contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-37594.

  1. In the last few years, it seems that Kamloops has become more of an illegal shooting range than a safe place to live.

While listening to Bill Blair’s message about tougher measures being introduced in 2021 to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, I noted our local population has seen as much or more gun violence by “non-hunters” or those who target shoot legally.

Mr. Blair, please look on a map of BC and find Kamloops. Apply your gun laws here in a real and measurable way.  A lot of innocent people are hoping for real change.

And Mr. Blair, the Mayor and a lot of folks in Merritt were depending upon you to help them rebuild after the destruction caused by the atmospheric river events.  Merritt is about 80-some Km south of Kamloops in case it’s hard to find on the same map.
