For the third time in 24 hours, Kamloops police responded to a high-risk situation that ended with a person being apprehended.

The most recent of the arrests – all unrelated – occurred Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024, around 5:30 p.m., at a camp on Jamieson Creek Forest Service Road. The Tk’emlúps rural RCMP detachment had been called to the area the night before, Sept. 30, 2024, for a report that a man had allegedly pointed a firearm at someone. Officers conducted extensive patrols of the area, but did not locate the suspect.

A resident posted a social media comment saying he and friends were at their hunting camp “and had a person known to the police come into our camp and pull a firearm on us.” Police responded “appropriately,” he said.

With the assistance of the RCMP Air Services and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (SED ERT), the suspect was located and arrested the next day. He remains in custody for a bail hearing as part of the ongoing investigation.

“This was the third time the SED ERT responded to Kamloops in a 24-hour period, with two of the occurrences overlapping at the same time,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley of the Kamloops and Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP detachments, referring to the Rose Hill assault-in-progress report that ended with a man being arrested on Oct. 1, 2024, around 2 p.m.

On Sept. 30, 2024, at about 10 p.m., the SED ERT apprehended a person under the Mental Health Act, following a report of a suicidal person who claimed to be in possession of a firearm and walking toward the Halston Bridge.

Pelley praised the efforts of police in the arrests, calling the response “exceptional.”

The man arrested in Rose Hill remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Anyone with information that may be related to either of these investigations is asked to please contact the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment at 250-314-1800.

Quick to blast the (real) Mayor for any alleged misstep, mistake or comment, but not a peep against Kelly Hall when he dismissed not only the crime problems, but an entire discipline of science.

FYI, my role is being taken by one of the deputies for the foreseeable future. Apparently I said something someone didn’t agree with, so my ability to speak for myself has been disabled.

  2. There’s one way to fix this mess. Grab Coun. Kelly Hall and have him rip up the reports and stats. Light the pieces on fire. That way, crime is reduced by 100%.

When it’s Kelly Hall’s turn to play Mayor, the crime will drop to zero for that month.

You know, this reminds me of the approach my daughter took as a child when she didn’t want to eat broccoli. When placed on her plate, she would close her eyes. We would ask why she was closing her eyes, and she would say “to make it go away”.

  3. Don’t worry about it. It’s probably just a statistical anomaly. And according to Coun. O’Reilly, statistics are meaningless anyway. Does this make sense? No, but neither does the councillors’ unified head in the weeds approach to rising crime.

    • It was Kelly Hall who said that but Mickey does say things that are utterly laughable too…

      • My mistake! I stand corrected–thank you.

I’m sure though, since the councillors are so unified, that what one says goes for all. At least, I didn’t hear any of them contradict the statement that the stats showing Kamloops to have Canada’s highest crime rate were meaningless.
