CITY HALL – Agreement reached on new contract with Fire Fighters Local 913

The City of Kamloops and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 913 have agreed to ratify the IAFF 2022–2025 collective agreement, the City said today (Sept. 19, 2024).

The new contract, reached on June 10 outlines wage increases of 3.5 per cent in 2022, 4.5 per cent in 2023, 4.5 per cent in 2024 and five per cent in 2025, which follows the overall wage rates of municipal firefighters across B.C. The contract also has provisions focused on firefighters’ physical and psychological health and well being.

While the previous collective agreement expired Dec. 31, 2021, members have continued to work under the terms of the previous agreement until a new one is ratified. The new terms are then retroactively applied. “This is a typical practice for IAFF negotiations across British Columbia due to restrictions on when bargaining can begin,” the City started.

Kamloops fire chief Ken Uzeloc and IAFF Local 913 president Jeremy Brodtrick agree that negotiations were respectful, and both sides are satisfied with the deal.

“The City and the IAFF will continue to work together to ensure Kamloops Fire Rescue can meet any future challenges and maintain its high quality of service regarding public safety.”

  1. This is sickening, are we to believe it just happens to be a coincidence that we have our bigger structural fire in decades the morning before this announcement was scheduled to be made public. If the contract was “reached on June 10” why are they making the announcement today. Admin is trying to bury this story for fear of oversight.
