Community services manager Will Beatty today (Sept. 9, 2024) confirmed the capture of three dangerous dogs by community service officers on the weekend.

Beatty said the action was taken in response to “serious concerns for public safety.” While he provided no details, it’s been widely reported that three pit bulls attacked and killed a 12-year-old border collie in its Richmond Avenue yard early Sunday morning.

“Our primary goal in such situations is to ensure the protection of our community and to address potential risks promptly and effectively,” Beatty stated.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family that lost their beloved dog yesterday. This incident is a somber reminder of the profound impact such situations can have on families and their cherished pets”.

He said the three dogs are being held in City custody pending further investigation by Community Services into the incident.

“No further information can be released at this time, but we urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and share anything that could be beneficial to the investigation.

“The safety and well-being of our community and their pets remain our highest priorities. We appreciate the community’s understanding and will release more information if it becomes available.”

  1. Mr. Beatty might not be old enough to have ever watched any episodes of Lassie on TV. This incident is pretty much the story of Lassie being killed by three vicious dogs. Have a look on Youtube for some takes on Lassie, Mr. Beatty. There might even be an “app” for it.

If it’s found these are the three dogs that executed the fatal attack, some serious thought should be done trying to imagine how to “rehabilitate” them AND for what reason. Why even consider it?

  2. That could have easily been a baby, child or teenager. Imagine a parent trying to fend off three bloodthirsty Pitbulls. A Pitbull can rip the flesh of your bones and their teeth can easily cut you to the bone.

The city must ban all Pitbulls now!!! Make this a Pitbull free community! Start taking the safety of the citizens of this community seriously! It’s the wild west out here!
