PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE – ‘Celebration of the Arts’ planned July 29

A “Celebration of the Arts” will be held at the end of the month to promote the proposed performing arts centre.
Billed as a “one-of-a-kind, experiential event designed to showcase and celebrate arts and culture in our community,” it will be held at the proposed site of the Kamloops Centre for the Arts at the old Kamloops Daily News site on Seymour Street from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 29.
Local arts and culture organizations will take part.
“We welcome residents of all ages,” said Dušan Magdolen, the City’s cultural services and events manager.
“This event is for everyone and will have something for everyone, just like the Kamloops Centre for the Arts will. Our goal is to showcase the varied opportunities the Kamloops Centre for the Arts will offer in a fun, unique, experiential way.
The Build Kamloops Celebration of the Arts will feature:
- live music and entertainment
- food vendors and bar (beer and wine)
- interactive displays and experiential activities
- public address from local dignitaries past and present
- and more
Experience the future of culture in Kamloops!
This will be an open-air gathering, rain or shine, and entry will be by donation (proceeds will go to the involved arts organizations).
The event is presented in partnership with the Kamloops Symphony, the Kamloops Film Society, the Kamloops Art Gallery, the Kamloops Museum and Archives, and Western Canada Theatre and supported by Kelson Group Property Management.

Every day I trudge to my favourite cafe to get my coffee and use the free wifi to read and comment here at the Armchair Mayor. With the increasing heat, it’s becoming far more difficult, and potentially dangerous to do so. After undergoing gender-affirming care, the heat impacts me in ways I never imagined, even after judicial application of Gold Bond powder.
Has the $25 dollar increase been clearly communicated as meaning $25 in year 1, $50 in year two, $75 in year 3 etc?
And what of Bill Sarai’s failure to pass the NDP vetting process? What about Mike O’Reilly being sued by tenants claiming they were improperly evicted. These appear to be glaring omissions and are important discussions for the taxpayer.
It was only yesterday that Bill Sarai and I agreed to disagree on the issue of the reverse onus voting process for the PAC. Civil discourse is not mutually exclusive to critical discourse.

July 29th is pension day. Seniors compose the sector of our citizens who can least afford the ballooned tax burden because of the PAC and other Build Kamloops projects.
It may be an opportunity for interested seniors to protest; carry signs and offer their view on what could well be an unaffordable item.

And who is paying for this little extravaganza? The taxpayers, again! I certainly would vote for my portion of whatever it is my family is paying for here to have gone to a cooling centre a lot sooner than Tuesday. Just saying, I sure hope we didn’t lose or cause any irreparable damage to these poor folks out on the streets because council couldn’t get a cooling centre open for them, but can whip up a party for a hundreds of millions of dollars (we don’t have) PAC building, just like that.
