Two simultaneously executed search warrants saw kilos of suspected drugs and weapons removed from the local trafficking scene during a Kamloops police enforcement project last week.

On Feb. 29, 2024, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment’s Targeted Enforcement Unit (TEU) made arrests and executed search warrants on a motel room downtown and a residence in Dallas as part of a drug trafficking investigation.

“The enforcement action was substantial and should send a clear message to drug traffickers in Kamloops,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley.

“Our strategic priorities will continue to focus on disrupting organized crime and violence, and implementing initiatives to further intelligence-based policing to target high-risk individuals involved in both drug and firearm related crimes.”

As a result of the search warrants, two men and two women were arrested. Three firearms, ammunition, a conductive energy device, cash, and paraphernalia indicative of drug trafficking, were seized as well as the following amounts of suspected illegal drugs:

  • More than one kilogram of cocaine;
  • More than one kilogram of methamphetamine;
  • Approximately 14 ounces of fentanyl (four of which were raw);
  • Approximately one ounce of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA);
  • More than 12 ounces of Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB).

The amount of fentanyl seized is more than 10,000 potentially lethal doses, police said.

“The drug seizure is significant in relation to the size of Kamloops and is expected to cause a disruption to those involved in the local drug trade,” said TEU Sgt. Kevin McIntyre.

“Those who are entrenched in the criminal lifestyle and may be concerned about potential fallouts that could occur as a result, are encouraged to reach out to the Kamloops RCMP Detachment with any information.”

Three of the suspects were released pending the ongoing investigation, which can take months to complete while police submit and wait for the return of drug analysis reports, and secure and process evidence as part of the charge recommendation submission.

One of the men arrested was held in custody on an outstanding warrant.

Anyone with information that may be related to this ongoing investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000.

  1. Thousands of opiate pills obtained by prescription through a “safe supply” harm reduction program have been seized by police in Prince George, B.C., after they were found to have been diverted to organized crime groups reselling them across Canada, the RCMP said.

    “Organized crime groups are actively involved in the redistribution of safe supply and prescription drugs,” said Corp. Jennifer Cooper of the RCMP’s Prince George detachment.

    “Many of the pills that were seized had been prescribed to specific individuals but were found all collected together, no longer belonging to those individuals,” she added. “It might mean how we regulate our safe supply might need a sober second glance.”

    Safe supply indeed. For drug dealers! BC and taxpayers are now involved in indirectly fronting drugs for distribution and sale by organized crime.

    Just in time for the weekly “guns were found” news article. Three cheers for creating an environment hyper-attractive to organized crime!

    Good thing we have gun laws that restrict people from carrying them….
