LETTER – A little confused about the confidentiality of City documents

(Image: CFJC Today)

Good morning Mayor Hamer-Jackson,

I am a little confused. I wonder if you could provide some insight as to how something played out the way it did with a “confidential” report?

I read the article in Kamloops This Week about your request to have a “confidential” report released so that you could view the contents. There was reference made to the fact that your wife is also wondering about some of the details but you are unable to provide her with any information. Apparently you might not be authorized to see this report. Or, there is information that might be damaging to your feelings or something along that line?

Is there a sense that your wife might not possess the maturity to have an opportunity to share in this part of your life? Conjugal partners add a special dimension to our lives, don’t they?

Yet, in the same article, a statement was made that the “confidential” report is in possession of the same media outlet that is running the story. Is there a legal precedence being set here? By what means did a media outlet come into possession of a “confidential” report?

Who else also be in possession of this “confidential” report?

I am a little confused.

Actually, I am a bit more than a little confused.

Sincerely,
JOHN NOAKES
Citizen of Westmount subdivision,
Kamloops

  1. Maybe the mayor could bypass Council and just ask Kamloops This Week to share their leaked copy of the harassment investigation report with him.

    • Indeed.
Of course, might someone question if the “leaked” document could be considered as having been stolen? Following that, if the document could be considered to be stolen property, who might be in possession of that stolen property? What are the possible penalties?

  2. Confidential reports at the city I would think the Mayor would be able to see.
But spouses I would say would not be be able to see work confidential reports. Unless of course they were an employee or Councillor who had access to that information.
And once again the media should not get leaked info.

  3. Where’s CAO Trawin, why isn’t he initiating an investigation into all the leaked reports made to the media, particularly with this confidential report on the mayors behaviour with city employees, oh ya, complainant #1 in the report is Trawin. The mayor is demanding for sr staff be accountable for their actions, who is against this? Well Trawin seems to be, he completely bungles the bylaws department with an independent arbitrator soundly siding with the city employees. But, before the report is completed Trawin and a couple other sr henchmen (staff) initiate an investigation of workplace mistreatment against the Mayor to muddy the waters, which “the gang of eight” are more than pleased to support. Anything to make the mayor look bad no matter how it affects the citizenry.

    • Maybe Mr. Trawin has started an investigation and maybe it is confidential and not leaked.
Your “gang of 8 comments” and your other terminology are not exactly conducive to helping people work through this and together.

  4. Nothing to be confused about.
A copy of a supposedly confidential report was given to Kamloops This Week by someone definitely associated with the CAO Trawin who has a big axe to bring with Mr. Hamer-Jackson. These type of things have happened with alarming regularity since Mr. Hamer-Jackson got elected. I find is intriguing and disheartening that Kamloops This Week went after the TNRD CAO Gill with much gusto but has repeatedly avoided doing any sort of fact-finding in regards to the shenanigans happening at City Hall.
For example, asking around various business owners the question how do they think about the procurement practices of the City of Kamloops under CAO Trawin the unison answer is “they suck”. I think Trawin has much to answer and needs to be summoned to accountability more than anyone else in Kamloops at the moment.
