COLLINS – Kamloops’ mayor still doesn’t understand his role
THE MAYOR CONTINUES to play the game of “tit for tat” with City council. Some have questioned where the mayor has spent his time using our taxpayers money. We want to know too since we are paying the freight.
Mayor Hamer-Jackson has responded by saying he has been out in the public as mayor, and at the last meeting in June, in an effort to, in his own words, “prove a point” the mayor trotted out a lengthy litany of the events he has attended.
This waste of time was interspersed by the mayor offering little jibes like “anyone getting bored yet?”
It’s pretty obvious the mayor was retaliating for criticism of his activities. There is no doubt the mayor is busy. What we need to know is what he is doing and where he is going and why.
Doug Collins has had a wide background in the broadcast industry, having done virtually every type of news and sports broadcasting, including news anchor, sports play-by-play, and editorialist. His “One Man’s Opinion” aired on TV from 1973- 2013. He retired from his management roles in the station in October, 2018, but continues to write his column. In 2019, Doug was awarded the Freedom of the City.

Perhaps you should wear his shoes for a day, Mr. Collins.
