POLICE – Several vehicles set on fire, believed to be related incidents

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is looking for video and information related to a series of Saturday morning vehicle fires.

On Saturday, May 13, 2023, around 3 a.m., police attended the 400-block of Laurier Drive, where Kamloops Fire and Rescue had just extinguished a vehicle fire. Several other vehicles nearby had gasoline poured on them.

As officers were investigating the first incident, KFR advised them of another fire on the 2600-block of Hwy 5A, where three vehicles were set ablaze; a house and fence also received minor damage.

“Due to the timing and proximity of the fires, police believe they are related,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

As part of their investigation so far, officers obtained statements and collected evidence for forensic examination. Two people dressed in black were observed in the Laurier Drive area at the time of that fire and were associated to what appeared to be a newer model, light coloured Honda CRV or SUV with a rear hatch.

“Neighbourhood canvasses have been conducted and will continue to be,” added Cpl. Evelyn.

“Anyone in the area who may have dash camera footage, security video, or information that may be related to this investigation and has not yet spoken with police, is asked to please contact the detachment.”

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment can be reached by phoning 250-828-3000 and referencing file 2023-16616 or 2023-16619.
