POLICE – East Trans Canada near Lafarge reopened after fatal collision

The highway east of Kamloops reopened this afternoon while the investigation into a fatal collision that caused its westbound closure is ongoing.

On May 2, 2023, just before 10 a.m., Kamloops RCMP responded to a motor vehicle incident on the East Trans Canada Highway, in the westbound lanes just west of Lafarge Road.

Officers arrived to find emergency responders performing first aid on a man who had been struck by a truck. He succumbed to his injuries soon after.

“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim had struck a barrier on the highway and was out of his vehicle when another vehicle collided with him,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

Traffic was rerouted while police and emergency responders attended the scene. All lanes have since reopened.

Anyone who witnessed or has information related to the investigation and has not yet spoken with police, is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-15092.
