POLICE – Suspect arrested after report of assault with an object

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to about 389 calls for service from Friday April 21, to 9 a.m. on Monday April 24, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Assault with a weapon investigation

An officer was patrolling downtown Friday night when he was alerted to an assault at a commercial location.

On April 21, 2023, around 2:20 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP officer was flagged over on the 300-block of Victoria Street, for a report of a man who had struck another man with an object. The suspect was arrested for assault with a weapon and transported to cells. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was released with a court date and conditions, with charge recommendation anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process. Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-13699.

Break and enter: man in custody

A Cawston man is charged with five offences related to a break and enter on the 1600-block of Valleyview Drive Saturday morning.

On April 22, 2023, around 7 a.m. RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter at a commercial location during which a truck was stolen and other vehicles were damaged. Around 8:15 a.m., officers received an update that the same vehicle was on Hillside Drive, travelling on one rim, and it appeared to have a bullet hole in the window.

Officers located the vehicle in a parking lot on the 2000-block of Lac Le Jeune Road and took the driver into custody. He was held for court and remanded until his next court appearance, scheduled for May 1, 2023.

Kindu Daniel Jalbert, 49, of Cawston, is charged with break and enter; theft of a motor vehicle; two counts of mischief by damaging vehicles and a gate; and possession of ammunition while prohibited.

Weapons report

Kamloops RCMP officers were involved in a high-risk arrest Sunday afternoon, for a report of a man with a pistol in his waistband.

On April 23, 2023, around 11:45 a.m., police responded to the 800-block of 8th Street on the North Shore in response to the report, and located a man matching the suspect’s description in the parking lot. He was arrested for possession of a weapon.

Further investigation revealed the pistol was a bb-gun, and the man was released without further process. The weapon was relinquished to police for destruction.
