Firefighters were quick to quel a blaze at a Sahali home today (April 27, 2023) but the home was destroyed.

The house at 318 Gleneagles Drive was fully engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived shortly after  2 p.m. Kamloops Fire Rescue prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring homes.

The residence is located next to a pathway that runs between Glenagles Drive and Summit Drive. The owner is reported to have been the only one in the home and escaped without injury.

Four fire engines answered the call. The fire is thought to have started outside the home.

A Kamloops Fire Rescue social media post warned against planting cedars near houses. “In many neighbourhoods in Kamloops, this same scenario would have destroyed two homes instead of one,” it stated.

  1. People plant “cedars” and worse, junipers and other resinous plant material near homes all over Kamloops. Proper planting and proper vegetation management is a rarity in Kamloops.
