POLICE – Suspects sought in second shooting of same man in five months

A Kamloops man was taken to hospital today (Feb. 25, 2023) after becoming the victim of a shooting for the second time in five months.

Just after 3 a.m., Kamloops RCMP were called to the 700-block of McGill Road for a report that three men had broken into a home and assaulted and shot the resident.

The suspects, who were described as all wearing dark clothing and balaclavas, fled on foot toward the cemetery off McGill Road before police arrival.

Police flooded the area but, despite “significant efforts,” including a search by a police service dog, the suspects weren’t found.

The 35-year-old victim was taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

“In the interest of public safety, we are confirming that this is the same individual who was previously targeted in September of 2022,” said Supt Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP.

“I understand that learning of a second shooting will be concerning to area residents and the community at large but believe it is important that we offer some context here.

“That context is that the same victim has been targeted twice, and these were not random acts of violence. The investigation is a priority and we will continue to advance it, in our efforts to identify and hold to account those responsible for committing these blatant acts of violence.”

Anyone who has information, or who may have been a witness, is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and cite file 2023-6527.
