POLICE – Two arrested after trying to get away in stolen car
A stolen vehicle was recovered and two people were taken into custody this morning — one of which was wanted on outstanding warrants.
On Dec. 14, 2022, around 10:15 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP police officer was making routine patrols near 2nd Avenue and Lansdowne Street when he saw a Sunbird that had been reported stolen out of Lillooet. Officers followed the vehicle to the North Shore where they attempted a traffic stop.
“At that point, the vehicle allegedly evaded police in a manner that was dangerous to the public,” said Corp. Crystal Evelyn.
“The vehicle was located shortly after on the 200-block of Schubert Drive, where it crashed into a barricade and its occupants fled on foot.”
Numerous police officers, including the Police Dog Service Unit, quickly located two suspects nearby.
Both are in police custody as part of the ongoing investigation; at least one will be held to appear in court in relation to arrest warrants out of Merritt for offences related to firearm and drug trafficking charges.
Anyone who witnessed, recorded, or has information related to this incident is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-44290.
