POLICE – Man shot, killed on Deadman Road after report of ‘confinement’
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. is investigating the death of a man following a police-involved shooting north of Walhachin near Kamloops.
The IIO said today (Aug. 15, 2022) Information provided by RCMP states that at about 5:20 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 14, 2022), police responded to a report alleging a man was confining a woman and child.
Members of the Emergency Response Team were deployed, and the man’s vehicle was located on Deadman Vidette Road about 14 kilometres from the Trans Canada Highway.
At about 3 a.m. today, at least one officer discharged their firearm. It is reported that the man was in possession of a weapon. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.
The woman was found injured and bound and was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries suffered prior to the police interaction. The child was uninjured.
The IIO said it was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has deployed investigators to the scene to commence an investigation.
