A loaded semi-automatic rifle was among the items seized by police in a Canada Day arrest.

At about 9:35 p.m. on July 1, 2022, Kamloops RCMP officers attended a parking lot on the 700-block of Tranquille Road for a report involving a suspicious man in a car.

The vehicle had been reported previously as taken without consent, and the man — its sole occupant — was detained.

“As part of the investigation that followed, officers located a loaded semi-automatic rifle, a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition, an assortment of suspected illegal drugs, and cash,” said Cpl. Crystal Evelyn.

The man was later released, with charge recommendation anticipated following the investigation’s conclusion.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2022-22420.
