POLICE – Image of van released in suspicious-death investigation

The Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit has released an image of a van and an appeal for witnesses as part of a suspicious death investigation.

On March 17, 2022, around 10 p.m., officers were called to the 1600-block of Monterey Place, where they located a dead person inside a vehicle. The death is being treated as suspicious.

Police haven’t said whether the body is that of a man or a woman, or any other description, and say they’re awaiting results of an autopsy.

“We are asking the public for assistance in helping us establish the vehicle’s movements during this past week,” said Todd Wiebe, Staff Sergeant of the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit.

“Please have a look at the van and its license plate. If you think you saw it or if you have dash cam or surveillance footage capturing it, please contact police as soon as possible.”

Police are looking for information on the van’s travel in Kamloops and surrounding rural areas and communities, including Barriere, Clearwater, Valemount, Savana, Cache Creek, and other spots along those corridors.

The vehicle is described as:
-white rental van
-2020 GMC
-BCLP PJ 9131
-company markings and logos

More information will be released to help further the investigation as it becomes available.

The Serious Crime Unit, General Investigation Service Team, Forensic Identification Service, Police Dog Service, and frontline officers are all actively engaged in assisting.

The BC Coroner’s Service is conducting a concurrent investigation.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-8565.
