POLICE – Driver arrested and jailed after SUV backs into police cruiser
Multiple vehicles were damaged following a report of an impaired driver on the North Shore Saturday afternoon (Dec. 4, 2021).
About 3:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP responded to reports of a possible impaired driver in a blue SUV with several flat tires. An officer patrolling Tranquille Road saw several people waving and pointing down Campbell Avenue, where the vehicle was immediately spotted.
“The officer tried to stop the vehicle, then block it from leaving as the suspect attempted to drive away,” said Const. Crystal Evelyn.
“While trying to flee, the suspect reversed into a second police vehicle approaching, causing significant damage to the cruiser’s front end.”
With the suspect’s vehicle pinned, officers were able to remove and arrest the suspect.
The driver, a Kamloops man, was taken to cells where he allegedly refused to provide a breath sample. He was released with a court date and conditions related to Criminal Code impaired driving offences to be recommended as part of the charge assessment and approval process.
Along with the police cruiser and SUV, a parked vehicle also sustained damage. No one was seriously injured.
Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2021-42290.
