POLICE – Man stabbed at motel on Columbia Street West, suspect arrested
A man is in custody and another was taken to hospital following a report of a stabbing at a Columbia Street motel early Saturday evening.
On Sept. 18, 2021, around 5:08 p.m., Kamloops RCMP were called to the Star Lodge on the 700-block of Columbia Street West for a disturbance involving people yelling about a possible stabbing. Police attended and located a man who had been stabbed, as well as a person rendering first aid. The man was transported to hospital by ambulance.
A woman was arrested at scene, but upon further investigation, a man was revealed to be the suspect. The man was later located and arrested.
“Police presence was visible on scene for some time following the incident as police obtained, then executed a search warrant in relation to the investigation,” said Const. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson.
The victim was later released from hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Kenneth Patrick West, age 49, of Kamloops, is charged with the following: assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and failure to comply with a probation order by possessing a weapon, and by possessing a knife outside of his residence except for the immediate preparation or eating of food. He is scheduled to appear in court later today.
Anyone with information about this investigation who has not yet spoken to police is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2021-32895.
I am so tired of this situation. There is such a disconnect between the city, RCMP, and the various drug treatment (or non-treatment) agencies. More and more people are coming to town and we need to get a handle on this. The criminal element is completely out of control. Unacceptable.
