Police are investigating an altercation between a security guard and another man that was captured on video.

RCMP said today (March 24, 2021) they responded to a report of an assault on March 17, around 5:15 p.m., on the 40-block of Victoria Street, the storage facility provided for homeless people.

“At the time, police were informed that a security guard had been spat at and pushed by an unknown man, resulting in the guard taking physical action,” said a news release.

“Frontline officers attended, spoke to those present, and patrolled the area. The man was not located.”

Police were later contacted regarding a video taken of the altercation, which showed an unknown man on the ground being kicked. On March 23, the Kamloops RCMP Street Crimes Officer located and reviewed further surveillance footage, allowing for identification of the man on the ground and others present. Police are trying to locate and speak to the man.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact police at 250-828-3000 and reference file number 2021-8861.
