POLICE – Officer taken to hospital after altercation with shoplifting suspect
A Kamloops RCMP officer was taken to hospital today (Feb. 11, 2021) after an altercation with a shoplifting suspect.
Around 2:17 p.m., RCMP responded to a report of a theft in progress at a store on 4th Avenue and Lansdowne Street. A man dressed in camo, jogging pants, and a black jacket with grey hoodie allegedly stole merchandise from the store and was being followed by the person who reported the theft.
Police responded and, shortly after, an officer called for backup and reported he was injured following an altercation with the suspect. No weapon was involved.
A 19-year-old man from Kamloops was arrested for offences including allegedly assaulting a police officer. He was apprehended with the assistance of a police service dog and was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The officer was also taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
