GINTA – The last thing we want to deal with in a pandemic is selfishness
IF THIS FEELS LIKE déjà vu… well, it is. Part of it anyway. The part about people choosing to gather in large numbers in the streets to protest, yet again, masks and other COVID restrictions.
Never mind that the health authority has restricted public gatherings and never mind that we’re still very much in a pandemic and a new strain has made its way into our province. Also, never mind that the organizer of this latest protest in Kelowna was fined $2,300 for the third time.
Some choose to trample over their own safety and the safety of others because somehow wearing a mask and respecting restrictions is just too hard to do.
Some want places of worship to be open even though virtual participation is possible and risk-free.

It is tragically ironic that the US and Canada, two of the most refined democracies in history, have produced fanatical aberrations of attitude and value that have no explanation beyond that of mutant — dangerous mutant, at that – which must not be allowed to reproduce or flourish. They are anti-social and anti-human. Even freedom and liberty are not absolutes, but are products of civil, compassionate society, and must be protected by whatever means are available. When we cull weeds from our garden, we are removing natural, but undesirable and literally fruitless nuisances which threaten the health of the garden’s purpose. All we need to do is agree on a method….perhaps greater emphasis on the purpose of education: the enhancement of humanity, not of the pocketbook and the investment portfolio. Trumpism smacks of the same odor as Naziism…the basest of instincts.
When we tolerate intolerance, are we encouraging it? Apparently.
