POLICE – False gun complaint results in multiple arrests on E. Shuswap Road
A police response to a firearms incident today (Dec. 9, 2020) ended with multiple arrests including the apprehension of a wanted man.
At 9:30 a.m., Tk’emlups Rural RCMP received a report that a male had been shot with a firearm inside a residence in the 700-block of East Shuswap Road.
Frontline officers of the Tk’emlups RCMP, assisted by officers of the Kamloops RCMP, set up an area of containment around the home. Several occupants were called out one at a time and were taken into custody.
The residence was eventually fully cleared of people and two pellet guns were seized. Police were able to determine there no injuries. The matter is still being investigated.
“Our initial response to a potentially high-risk call will always be to err on the side of caution until we can determine otherwise,” said Sgt. Darren Michels.
“Our response is always measured and includes an ongoing risk assessment as it is easier to scale back a response, than scale up. We do this to ensure public and police safety.”
One man who exited the residence was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest on an unrelated matter. He was taken to RCMP cells and released with paperwork for a future court date.
