POLICE – RCMP investigate drive-by shooting on Chestnut Avenue
Police are investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred late Thursday night (June 25, 2020).
At 11:27 p.m. RCMP Kamloops responded to Chestnut Avenue for a complaint of a gunshot. The responding members located a vehicle parked in a residential driveway that had bullet damage. The initial investigation led to the discovery of home security video that captured the shooting incident.
The video depicts a white SUV, possibly a late ’90s Chevrolet Blazer with a black horizontal stripe, drive by the residence in question and fire a shot. Police said the house was occupied by a family at the time but there were no injuries.
“Unfortunately, Kamloops RCMP respond to gunfire or firearm incidents on a regular basis,” said S/Sgt. Simon Pillay.
“These are obviously treated as very high risk, emergency situations. In this case, an errant bullet could easily have killed an innocent person in their home. This type of reckless firearm usage presents a major public safety risk and as such are treated as priority investigations.”
There are no suspects and police have released a photo in hopes the public might be able to help, he said.
“Although the picture is not clear, someone may recognize this vehicle. Whoever fired that shot has demonstrated they don’t care if or who they may kill. If you have information, please call us (at 250-828-3000) and help make our community safer.”
He said that at this early stage of the investigation, it’s not clear if the incident relates to organized crime.
