An editorial by Mel Rothenburger.

HEARING LOSS AMONG B.C. DRIVERS has apparently become a major safety issue.

On Friday, police urged drivers to take it easy during the long weekend. They said they’d be out in force to catch the leadfoots. So, we were well warned.

Tuesday, B.C. RCMP Traffic Services reported a “significant” increase in the number of speeders from Saturday through to Monday. Clearly, nobody heard the warning.

Moved to Kamloops 8 months ago and our townhouses overlooks Hwy. 5A. Seems like the hill down to the Aberdeen Mall is a great excuse to speed….no…let me amend that…really speed. It is not unusual to see vehicles and motorcycles easily go 30, 40 or 50 kph over the posted 70 kph. But… I haven’t seen one speed trap. As for the asses who use their jake brakes, well we have given up. Seems our city taxes do NOT cover fining these jerks.
