Emergency crews rushed a youth to hospital following an incident in the North Thompson River Friday evening (May 8, 2020).
Shortly before 8 p.m., Kamloops RCMP were called to assist B.C. Emergency Health Services and the local fire department who were responding to the area of Station Road and Zirnhelt Road for a report of a youth involved in a possible drowning incident.
Frontline officers arrived to find emergency paramedics performing life saving measures on the 15-year-old girl.
Police spoke with some witnesses who remained at the scene and learned that the youth walked out into the river, when she suddenly collapsed. Friends pulled the girl from the water and began first aid measures. Early indicators suggest that alcohol may have been involved.
The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Her condition has improved over the weekend, and she continues to recover.
Police would like to speak with anyone else who may have witnessed the event, or the circumstances leading up to the incident. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
