POLICE – Snowmobiler rescued near Sun Peaks after sled breaks down
A snowmobiler is safe and sound after being rescued in the Sun Peaks area Friday night (Dec. 20, 2019).
Kamloops Rural RCMP were called at 5:20 p.m. about a snowmobiler who had a mechanical breakdown. Sun Peaks was experiencing heavy snowfall and contact was made with the sledder.
Search and Rescue were activated and at 11:30 p.m. the sledder had been located in good health.
RCMP said two factors resulted in the perfect outcome of what could have been a disaster. The sledder was prepared for just such an event with proper clothing, equipment including GPS, a cell phone and extra batteries.
The second factor was that Search & Rescue was deployed quickly and professionally. Police offered “many thanks” to Search & Rescue, who have been utilized a fair bit lately.
