MEDIA – TRU student presented with Armchair Mayor Journalism Award
Congratulations to Aidan Grether, the recipient of the 2019 Armchair Mayor Journalism Award.
I had the pleasure of presenting Aidan with the award Thursday evening (Nov. 28, 2019) at the annual TRU Awards event and to get to know a little about him.
Aidan is finishing up his bachelor’s degree in the Journalism program and hopes to have a career in print journalism and public relations.
He’s already got a head start, having worked for the Sun Peaks Independent News for a summer, and currently working as a writer and photographer on the TRU Omega. He also does freelance photography.
Aidan grew up in Sun Peaks and lives in town while attending TRU. I am constantly impressed with the quality of new journalists coming out of the TRU program and Aidan is another example of that.
More than 650 students received awards totalling about $750,000 from 600 donors at last night’s event in the TRU gym.
This is the seventh year the Armchair Mayor Award has been presented. Glacier Media provided the foundation for the award as a retirement gift when I retired from the Kamloops Daily News. When the Glacier contribution ended after three years, I continued the award with proceeds from ArmchaiirMayor.ca.
