MEDIA – Armchair Mayor finalist for Best Commentator in Webster awards

I’m pleased to say the Armchair Mayor has been named a finalist in this year’s Commentator of the Year award by the Jack Webster Foundation.

Finalists in all categories of the annual awards were announced today (Sept. 9, 2019). The other two finalists are Sandy Garossino of the National Observer and Daphne Bramham of the Vancouver Sun.

My placing among the finalists is for my Armchair Mayor columns and editorials published and broadcast on CFJC TV and CFJC Today. Among the pieces considered by the jury panel were my March column “We’ve got to talk about suicide” and my column in April on ageism, “Reflections on becoming an old man.”

The winner will be announced at the annual Webster Awards gala in Vancouver on Nov. 7.

Thank-you to CFJC for its support in publishing my columns.

Congratulations Mel and CFJC! Although the verbal always follows the written I enjoy following the voice just to make sure your aging voice still has timbre. Although I don’t always agree with your views I certainly agree 100% with those on ageing. It’s a privilege. The option? I’m not too keen on that.
