ARTS/ ENTERTAINMENT – Cracked roof truss forces Sagebrush Theatre to close
Western Canada Theatre is scrambling to fine new venues for upcoming productions after news on Friday (Feb. 15, 2019) that the Sagebrush Theatre will have to be closed for roof repairs.
Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story will be moved to the Coast Kamloops Conference Centre’s Theatre at 1250 Rogers Way.
WCT said in a notice to ticket holders Friday that the full production of the play will still be presented with full set, lighting and cast.
“We know that Kamloopsians will join us in this unusual and unique theatrical adventure,” said artistic director James MacDonald.
“Buddy Holly’s terrific music and story will shine through in this production no matter where we play it. We’re excited to take the last train to the Coast (Hotel), and see the day the music lives.”
It’s not known how long the Sagebrush will be closed to repair a cracked roof truss. WCT said ticket holders will be contacted over the next couple of days to make arrangements to reschedule. The new schedule for performances is as follows:
Tuesday, Feb 19 – 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb 20 – 7:30 p.m.
Friday, Feb 22 – 2 p.m. matinee
Sunday, Feb 24 – 2 p.m. matinee
Sunday, Feb 24 – 8 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb 27 – 11 a.m. matinee

The Rex, downtown at 4th and Seymour, is beautifully restored, acoustically perfect and seats 400 people. Brand new parking lot just around the corner at 4th and St. Paul. The theatre at The Coast Hotel is also very comfortable and seats 450. I believe the production of Buddy Holly will be presented there. The roof truss can be fixed. This is why God invented engineers.
